Founder of Independent Baptist Ministries Of India
Dr. K. C. Thomas was born on 29 November 1929 in Kumbanad, Pathanamthitta, Kerala, India, into a Syrian Christian (Marthoma) family and later became part of the Brethren Assembly. He accepted the Lord at the age of 18 and dedicated his life to Christian ministry.
He completed his theological studies at Hindustan Bible College (H.B.I) and later pursued higher studies at Baptist Bible College and Seminary, Springfield, Missouri, USA. After returning to India, he founded I.B.M.I in 1968.
Through God’s grace, he planted over 100 churches across different states in India and established four Baptist Bible Colleges and Institutes. He was also a gifted writer and publisher, operating Bethel Printers to print biblical magazines, literature, and books. He authored several books on leadership and theology, including Leadership and Mission, The Uniqueness of Christ, Fallen Man, Security of Salvation, and The Holy Spirit and Tongues.
Enduring Legacy
Dr. K. C. Thomas (29 November 1929 – 6 October 1994) was a visionary leader whose ministry (22 September 1968 – 6 October 1994) produced many dedicated preachers who continue serving across India and beyond. His passion for theological education led to the founding of Baptist Bible College & Seminary and several other institutions. Through Bethel Printers, he spread sound doctrine via magazines and books that are still used today. His spiritual children number in the thousands, carrying the torch of independent Baptist ministries.
President’s Vision
Rev. Dr. Sam Thomas is the current President of the Independent Baptist Ministries of India (IBMI), succeeding his father, Dr. K. C. Thomas, after his promotion to glory in 1994.
As President, Rev. Dr. Sam Thomas has faithfully continued the vision and mission established by IBMI’s founder. Under his leadership, the ministry has expanded its outreach, strengthened existing churches, and maintained a strong emphasis on Bible-centered education. He has also fostered partnerships with like-minded organizations globally, ensuring that the legacy of his father continues to impact generations.
Principal’s Commitment
Rev. Paul Thomas is the Principal of Baptist Bible College and Seminary (BBCS), carrying forward the vision after the promotion to glory of his father, Dr. K. C. Thomas, in 1994. He has been instrumental in expanding the college's outreach and maintaining doctrinal fidelity. Under his leadership, the college has trained hundreds of pastors and missionaries, emphasizing rigorous biblical studies and practical ministry. He also oversees the curriculum development and extension programs across India, ensuring that students are equipped to defend the faith and plant churches.
